There is a cute little Japanese maple in our yard, and I am attempting a small study of it on toned paper. The network of branches and leaves is so complicated and fascinating! This was meant to be a preliminary study of the overall movement and pathways in the tree. I have started studying through Ted Jacobs' book The Dictionary of Human Form, and there is a page on "The Tree as A Unified Organism" (p. 811) which is proving to be helpful in analyzing what at first appeared to be an indecipherable tangle of vegetation!
